Librettist Playwright Lyricist

LISSA LEVIN is a playwright and award-winning librettist/lyricist, garnering the prestigious Kleban Award for her libretto for TWIST OF FATE; composer, Ron Abel. The musical comedy also won L.A. Weekly’s Musical of the Year and two L.A. Drama Critics Circle Awards, and was nominated for a Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best Musical.  Levin penned the libretto for HAZEL, A Musical Maid In America, which premiered at the Drury Lane Theatre in Chicago and will be presented at the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival in New York, 2020.  Her other musicals include JEWSICAL, A Low Bar Mitzvah; the vampiric HOT BLOODED, and the holiday classic STRUTCRACKER.  Her plays include SEX AND EDUCATION, which will be presented by The Ensemble Theatre, Cincinnati in fall, 2019;  TRUTH BE TOLD and WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?
 
Also a twenty-five year veteran of television as a writer-producer, Levin’s credits include the Emmy-nominated MAD ABOUT YOU, CHEERS, WKRP IN CINCINNATI, FAMILY TIES; BROTHERS,  MR. BELVEDERE, COMPLETE SAVAGES (with Keith Carradine), THUNDER ALLEY (with Ed Asner), GLORIA (with Sally Struthers),  amongst many others.

Levin’s essay, PISSER, a rant about insufficient bathroom stalls in women’s rest rooms in theaters, was published by Random House in a collection of noted female humorists.
The anthology was later transformed into a comedy revue co-produced by Levin, a breast cancer activist, benefitting the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation.

Levin is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Writers Guild of America, ASCAP, and the Society of Composers and Lyricists.
