Kato McNickle
Kato McNickle is a Connecticut-based playwright, director, and artist.
A graduate of Brown University, they hold a degree in Ancient Studies specializing in Greco-Roman and Sanskrit performance and continue to study the connection between art, perception, neuroscience, and theater. They have taught playwriting at the University of Connecticut, and writing, acting, and comic-book making at Artreach, Inc. in Norwich, CT. They have studied playwriting with Paula Vogel in one of her famous bootcamps, Bonnie Metzgar at Brown University, and Donna DiNovelli, Kia Corthron, and Polly Pen at The National Theater Institute.
Playwriting awards and honors include: a Heidman Award finalist with Actors Theater of Louisville for ABOUT A HUNDRED PANCAKES; a Silver Clauder Award from Portland Stage Company, Theatre for Youth National Playwriting Award for CHANCE OF RAIN; an O'Neill National Playwrights Conference finalist for MINOTAURS. TOREROS. and ARIADNE ON THE ISLAND, and an Ensemble Studio Theatre New Voices Fellowship for FENCERS.
They are chair of the New London Artistic Council; Vice-President of the Mystic Paper Beasts Mask & Puppetry Company; producer of the Mayfly 24-Hour Theater in New London.
A member Dramatist Guild and the Star Wars Fan Club.
