Josef Evans
Josef is a Minnesota-based creator with a lengthy history in absurdist comedy, musical theater and community-engaged performance. He is a founding artist of the zAmya Theater Project and a longtime artistic associate with both Bedlam and Open Eye Theatres.
Josef's trilogy of outdoor musicals, commissioned (earlier in the pandemic) by Open Eye Theatre in association with Minneapolis' Bakken Museum, recently concluded with a sold-out run of its final installment, "Loch Mess," a playful and loosely historical mashup of sea monsters, disaster films and "Show Boat." He is currently developing a new musical, "Whoa Nellie," about Nellie King - a real-life female horse thief who dressed in male attire and posed as a fake detective during the late 1800s - for History Theatre. The show was featured as part of their annual "Raw Stages" festival in January 2024.
