Crystal Skillman
CRYSTAL SKILLMAN is the author of OPEN featuring Drama Desk Nominated Megan Hill, directed by Jessi D. Hill, which ran this June at the Tank in a production with All for One Theatre Company earning a NYTimes and TONY Critics Pick. Other plays include: GEEK, KING KIRBY, ANOTHER KIND OF LOVE, and CUT, which also featured Megan Hill. She is the author of the play PULP VÉRITÉ (Director: Margot Bordelon) which was workshopped at the Playwrights Foundation last fall and just announced on the 2019 Kilroys List as Honorable Mention. Her play RAIN AND ZOE SAVE THE WORLD, winner of the 2018 EMOS Prize, was presented in an industry reading at MTC Studios this spring. Crystal is the musical theater bookwriter of MARY AND MAX (composer/lyricist: Bobby Cronin) which was awarded the 2018 MUT Award Critics Prize. MARY AND MAX recently premiered at Theatre Calgary, and has just announced its European premiere this fall at Landestheater Linz. Her plays often include musical elements such as ANOTHER KIND OF LOVE a play rock play (with music by Tony Award Nominee Heidi Rodewald), a Chicago Tribune Critics’ Pick called a “Masterpiece” by the Chicago Reader. Other musicals in development include: OLISHNACH (also with Bobby Cronin) featuring Ali Stroker, POSTCARD AMERICAN TOWN (composer/lyricist: Lynne Shankel) awarded a 2018 Rhinebeck Writers Residency, BRIGHTWATER (composer/ lyricist: Matt McCollum), and VAUDEVILLE ROCK (composer/lyricist: Paul Scott Goodman). TV/Comic Book work with Fred Van Lente includes: EAT FIGHTER (WebToon), ADVENTURE TIME (Boom! Studios), and the original pilot PAPER HEROES (Finalist for several competitions including Big Break and Launch Pad). Awards include: NY Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Play for THE VIGIL OR THE GUIDED CRADLE, two EST/Sloan commissions, and the web series DRUNK ART LOVE.
