Catherine Stewart is an applied theatre artist, making performance work created through participatory processes. Her plays include At The Table, She Will Lead, Shelter, Extras Wanted, and You, Me and the Woodsmoke which was a finalist for the Acadiana Rep’s 2020 Season. Her one-act play Over the Fence won the 2017 Prescott Park Arts Festival 30 Pages in 30 Days Competition. She emigrated to the US from Scotland in 2012, and has worked as a freelance writer, director, projection designer and teaching artist throughout New England. She is a facilitator/performer with PowerPlay: Interactive Development based at the University of New Hampshire. Between 2019 and 2021 she was the Artistic Director of New Hampshire Theatre Project, an applied theatre comapny based at its 50-seat blackbox theatre in Portsmouth, NH. She was a 2019 Creative Community Fellow at National Arts Strategies, and is a member of the Lincoln Center’s Director’s Lab (2018). She is currently part of Company One’s PlayLab Unit and is part of the inaugural cohort of practitioners selected for Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process Certification.
