Currently seeking a composer and co-lyricist to work with me on a new musical based on a work of nonfiction, Growing Up Twice, Shaping a Future by Reliving My Past.
My past experience includes the co-creation of an original alien abduction musical with Kurt Crowley, known for his work as the musical director of Broadway's hit show Hamilton. Mr. Crowley and I wrote three versions of our musical which were supported by Portland's Broadway Rose Theatre and a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council. Our work on the musical was ended when Mr. Crowley's exceptional talent was spotted and he was abducted from me by Lin Manuel Miranda!
Work on that musical made me realize that it would be easier to start from a completed, original story, so I spent the next four years writing a book based on my own life experience. My main reason for writing it was to inspire others into helping children in our country who need a caring adult mentor. Now that I have a completed story to base a musical on —complete with a happy ending! Below is a summary of the story and reviews.
While mentoring a troubled Latino youth, a man confronts memories of his own painful teenage years growing up gay in a small Oregon town.
