We will regard the Institute as a true place of education, expecting that our faculty and students will combine their energies with the resources of the Dramatists Guild to elevate the creative landscape of the American theatre through the development of new plays and musicals.
Because a large number of our members contact us regularly for guidance and advice on writing classes, writing workshops, writing groups, and master-classes, we’ve designed a curriculum of classes that combines the very best of our DG Academy (playwriting seminars) and DG Conservatory (musical theatre writing seminars) into a variety of extended educational classes (anything from a long weekend to something more rigorous that’s 6-10 weeks in duration). These classes are offered to Guild and non-Guild members, with Guild members receiving a significant reduction in tuition. All of our classes are taught by prominent educators and master teachers.
A progressive curriculum for any serious dramatist.
Designed for every level of skill in our profession, our classes will satisfy the very real needs of our members in terms of writing workshops, best practices, craft classes and seminars. You’ll be given practical experience in everything from developing a full-length play with actors, to dissecting basic dramatic structure, to synopsis writing and the foundations of musical composition.
Keep in touch, share each other’s creative projects, ask for advice, form writers’ groups, and more using the new Official DGI Alumni Facebook Group. Request to join here: www.facebook.com/dgialumni
