"I have written 23 songs for a musical that focuses on classic (Robert Johnson) and contemporary blues (ZZ Hill). I need an artist-composer musician to score the songs. The musical is tentatively titled "The Last Lion" and is focused on the mid to late 1980s when blues music was taking a nose dive. The lead figure in the musical, the Last Lion, is one the last blues musicians still hanging on. What's the turning point? "I’m a playwright. I have an eighty-minute comedy crying out for music. My last play, also a comedy, made it to finalist best production at the NY Theater Festival and would have won, I’m convinced, had it delivered a musical component as part of the performance. “Cruising” is about two married couples “on the rocks” needing to reignite their relationship. Grudgingly, opposite partners agree to a cruise to a magical Mexican temple said to bring life back into marriages. Aboard the ship they encounter a young flower child girl and her dull Ivy League boyfriend contemplating marriage. All three relationships are really mismatches and by the end of the play all but one are rearranged. This is a cast of seven including the foil, a cruise director. The draft is written but I will rewrite to accommodate music and lyrics. I’m not looking for a full-blown musical but 2-4 pieces to spice up the story. This will run early 2025, most likely at the festival. I haven’t cast the play, hoping to find an upbeat composer-lyricist collaborator. "
