  • Mindfulness Meditation with the Actors Fund (ET), 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm, Monday - Friday

    Come together with others in the Entertainment Community, experiencing and learning Mindfulness practices utilizing the breath and meditation.

    This 30-minute meditation practice is grounded in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

    Bring a sense of balance to your day, and give yourself a little rest from the unrest.

    Join us every day, Monday through Friday, from Noon -12:30pm (ET).

    The 30-minute meditation takes place via Zoom, an online video conferencing system. You will need a device with internet connectivity to participate. 

    To access the Zoom link please register via Zoom. Note: Participants interested in attending these daily meditations need only register one time. 

    Upon registration you will receive an email from Zoom with the link for accessing the meditations. You can use this same link to join on a daily basis, or, as often as your schedule allows.

    Comic actors, writers and stand-up comedians provide much needed relief in an often-changing world. These comedy professionals are vital to the well-being of our society. However, professionals in comedy often rely on income streams dependent on live audiences. Due to the pandemic and today’s uncertainties within the entertainment industry, comedy professionals are struggling to maintain financial stability and agency over their careers.
     
    Come join us for this spotlight on comedy professionals. During this discussion, we will explore:

    • Obstacles unique to the world of comedy
    • Potential solutions to navigate a landscape of work within comedy, during and after the pandemic
    • Self-care practices for comedy professionals 
    • Resources that can be used to support your comedy career

    About Sara Benincasa

    Sara Benincasa is a comedian, actress, college speaker on mental health awareness, and the author of "Real Artists Have Day Jobs" (William Morrow 2016); "DC Trip" (Adaptive 2015); "Great" (HarperTeen 2014); and "Agorafabulous!: Dispatches From My Bedroom" (William Morrow 2012). She is the host of the stress relief podcast "Well, This Isn't Normal".

    Sara attended Emerson College and has a degree in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C. She has an M.A. in Secondary School Education from Teachers College at Columbia University. She’s spoken to dozens of colleges, universities, comedy festivals, writers’ conferences and nonprofit groups about creative writing, storytelling, comedy and mental health awareness.

      The Career Center addresses a central challenge for performing arts and entertainment professionals: navigating the episodic nature of work in the industry. For many, survival work—initiated to make ends meet—ends up draining the creative professional and becoming more of a problem than a solution. This orientation will help you begin to take the necessary steps to identify meaningful work that complements your life in the entertainment business.

      NYC has launched a NEW website for applying for affordable housing lotteries and re-rentals. Learn everything you need to know about 2.0.

       All new affordable housing opportunities are available on a new version of NYC Housing Connect. If you had an account on the original NYC Housing Connect, your applicant profile will not be carried over to the new website. Users will need to create a brand new profile to apply. This new webinar will help applicants navigate the new system, understand changes to the process and show you how to set up a new profile.
