NEW ENGLAND EAST: Toolbox Workshop on Artistic Statements and Synopses
Saturday, August 3
Boston Playwrights’ Theatre
949 Commonwealth Avenue
Boston, MA 02215
Most writers dread applications that require artistic statements or statements of intentions. And condensing our plays down into a bite-sized synopsis can be a horrible chore.
Come listen to tips and advice from our panel, and then we’ll break into small groups and individual sessions for very brief feedback on material that you bring.
Our panelists will include Jeni Mahoney, artistic director of the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference; Louise Hamill, artistic director of the Fresh Ink Theatre; Pascale Florestal, who manages the Boston Project with SpeakEasy Stage Company; John Minigan, playwright and Dramatists Guild Ambassador for the Boston area; and Patrick Gabridge, the Dramatists Guild Regional Rep for Eastern New England and founder of the Playwright Submission Binge and other ventures.
If you’re looking for feedback on your own material, feel free to bring 1 (one) artistic statement/statement of intentions or synopsis, and we’ll get you some specific feedback.
Just talking about how to craft and deal with these items will help you improve your marketing and submission materials, and (we hope) ease some of the anxiety that comes with drafting them.
