MICHIGAN: Writers’ Retreat
DG members are invited to a writers’ retreat on Sugar Island near Sault Ste. Marie in the Upper Peninsula on May 18 – 20. This is a chance to share your writing and to enhance your craft in a rustic setting. The retreat, co-sponsored by the Chippewa Sault Ste. Marie tribe, will be held at their Mary Murray Culture Camp.
We begin with a group dinner at 6 pm on Friday May 18. Then, we will discuss our current projects. Between 9 am and 6 pm on Saturday, we will respond to writing prompts and share our work. On Sunday, we will complete the weekend with discussion of work in the morning, and then leave the premises after lunch.
There is no fee to participate. Meals will be prepared and served at the center. The Culture Camp is a heated, air-conditioned meeting space for cultural activities. Hiking trails surround the building. Bunk beds and showers are available for use, with men housed separately from women. Please bring your pillow and a sleeping bag. You may prefer to stay in a hotel in the town of Sault Ste. Marie, and drive in to attend workshops. A paid ferry connects the town to the island.
If you plan to attend, please contact Anita Gonzalez (using the link in the signature below) for more details.
