MICHIGAN: Banned Together, a Censorship Cabaret
On September 27th, University of Michigan’s Department of Theatre & Drama, in conjunction with the Dramatists Guild Legal Defense Fund
, will present Banned Together: A Censorship Cabaret at the Comedy Showcase, 212 S 4th Ave in Ann Arbor at 7:30pm.
Banned Together: A Censorship Cabaret is a celebration of songs and scenes from shows that have been censored or challenged on America’s stages. This event was created to raise awareness around issues of censorship and free expression in the theater. The performance will feature selections from The performances will feature selections from Cabaret; Chicago; Almost, Maine; Rent; Angels in America, and several others. The Banned Together libretto is by DLDF president John Weidman (Anything Goes, Assassins).
During the week of September 24-30, Banned Together will be presented in seventeen cities as a part of Banned Books Week, the annual celebration of the freedom to read.
DLDF is a non-profit organization created by the Dramatists Guild to advocate for free expression in the dramatic arts and a vibrant public domain for all, and to educate the public about the industry standards surrounding theatrical production and about the protections afforded dramatists under copyright law.
