Community Conversations - Central

Virtual

LOCATION

This event will be held online.

SUMMARY

Hosted by our Regional Council members and Regional Reps, the Community Conversations are an opportunity to connect with other members in your region, discuss topics relevant to our profession, and share resources like development opportunities, grant programs, and tips for effective marketing.

While these Community Conversations offer members the chance to create connections with others who live in the same geographic region, you’re welcome to attend any of the regional events that work for your schedule.

Each conversation will last around 90 minutes, with time for discussion with each other and with Guild staff, Regional Council members, and Regional Reps.  The basic agenda is as follows for the 90-minute conversation:

*15 Minutes - Introductions from Regional Council Members

*45 Minutes - Breakout Rooms (feel free to move about them!)

*15 Minutes - Reconvene and briefly talk about what was discussed in the breakout rooms

*15 Minutes - Last minute comments or questions

Our overall theme this year is CENTERING THE PLAYWRIGHT - The Playwright's Process, The Playwright's Challenge, and The Playwright's Community.  There are many directions our conversations can go.  These topics are meant to be incite engagement, not feel like a strict or regimented agenda. Feel free to improvise and go with how the conversation is naturally developing. This is intended to be an open and positive discussion. We want to encourage thoughtful and constructive engagement.

We are also asking everyone to bring one resource to share with the group. This could be an opportunity, website, book, podcast, article…anything at all! People can drop their resources directly into the Zoom chat.

Most importantly, we want you to have fun! The goal is to create an environment where playwrights can connect and learn from each other.

The Guild was established for the purpose of aiding dramatists in protecting both the artistic and economic integrity of their work. In fulfilling our mission, we recognize that much of the creative work of authorship is undertaken in isolation, so we foster a sense of union and community among our members in order to enrich, inspire and empower them to advocate for themselves, for their work, and for each other. We come together as dramatists in individual events across the nation out of respect for our shared profession. Respect for one another and our shared space is vital.
