BALTIMORE: DG Footlights™
Thursday, November 14
5426 Harford Road
Baltimore, MD 21214
Join us for a reading of a new play, Exposed To Strangers, by Alonzo LaMont.
In Exposed to Strangers, a married middle-aged librarian, Odysseus, decides to send letters to a “famously” imprisoned middle-school teacher who had a controversial affair with a 12-year-old student of hers. The controversy evolved into a nation-wide spectacle, that generated into a full-scale tabloid media investigation. The teacher was found guilty for engaging in sex with a minor. Though Odysseus writes letters, he’s never received one in return. Till one day, a letter arrives. Ultimately, he confesses to his wife about his “literary intimacy,” and they both struggle to define the reason and logic behind Odysseus’ actions, as the teacher struggles with the consequences of her own.
DG Footlights is a program, created and moderated by the Dramatists Guild, that connects dramatists with free space in which to hold a public reading of a new work that is currently in development. This initiative operates on a space-grant model: a representative from the Guild will arrange for a venue to donate space during allocated dates and times, and will ensure that the space is available for dramatists to use to present a self-produced reading to the public, with an optional feedback session following the reading. Attendance is always free and open to all.
