Attorneys Backstage: Pulling Back the Curtain on How to Enforce Your Contracts

The Business Affairs team is excited to present its new monthly series: Attorneys Backstage!

Each month, Director of Business Affairs Jessica Lit, Esq. and Business Affairs Consultant Leesa Fenderson, Esq. will "pull back the curtain" on various aspects of the business of writing for the theatre.

This month the attorneys will be pulling back the curtain on how to enforce your contracts. The Guild encourages our members to enter into contracts for any business relationship they have to protect both themselves and their work, but how do you enforce that contract when you think it has been breached?

The attorneys will walk you through how to read your contracts and give you suggestions for how to address different scenarios like what to do if you don’t get paid, how to enforce your authorial rights if they are being violated and what steps you might take if your collaborator has stopped responding to you.

Don’t have a contract? No problem! The attorneys will also discuss ways you may be able to enforce your rights in situations where there isn’t a contract in place, including what to do if someone has infringed on your work.
