Attorneys Backstage! 

Each month, Director of Business Affairs, Jessica Lit, Esq. and Business Affairs Consultant, Leesa Fenderson, Esq., “pull back the curtain” on various aspects of the business of writing for the theatre.

This month the attorneys will “pull back the curtain” on adaptations. We’ve hosted many seminars on adaptations in the past, however, to supplement the release of the revised DG Model Underlying Rights, the attorneys wanted to take this opportunity to revisit and, as usual, deep dive into some new aspects of adaptations you may have not considered.

In this session, we’ll cover the basics, including when to know if you need the rights and how to acquire them, the concept of “fair use,” and writing about real people; but we will also touch on the impact of A.I. as well as special considerations for collaborating directly with the underlying rights holder. 

We’ll also be joined by special guest: Executive Director of The Dramatists Guild, Ralph Sevush, Esq., who always brings a wealth of insight and experience to the conversation.
