Playwright and Lyricist
Timothy Mason was a company playwright with Circle Rep in New York, with which he has produced his plays Babylon Gardens (with Timothy Hutton and Mary-Louise Parker) and The Fiery Furnace (starring Julie Harris). Some of his other works, including Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical, for which he wrote the book and lyrics, have been produced by Actors Theatre of Louisville, Seattle Rep, and the Old Globe, among many others. Mr. Mason is the recipient of the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays, a Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and a National Society of Letters award, among other prestigious achievements.
Works include: The Less Than Human Club (1994); Six (2004); Babylon Gardens (1998); The Fiery Furnace (1994); Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical (book and lyrics) (2006).
